The experience

Day one starts at 7:30 a.m. with pickup from your Puerto Natales hotel, then heads into Torres del Paine National Park. The route passes Cerro Castillo for a rest stop, then climbs to Sarmiento Lake Viewpoint for the first panoramic view of the Paine Range. From there you enter the park at Laguna Amarga, where the Torres del Paine granite formations rise directly in front of you, and continue to Cascada Paine for photographs. The drive follows Lake Pehoé's shore past Salto Grande waterfall, with a 40-minute lunch stop at Pehoé campsite (bring your own food or buy supplies in Puerto Natales beforehand). The afternoon takes you to Gray Lake, where a one-hour walk leads to the shore and icebergs calving from Gray Glacier. On the return, you stop at Lago del Toro viewpoint and then at Milodon Cave Natural Monument, where an audiovisual room and the large cave itself hold a replica of the Milodon, an extinct animal that lived thousands of years ago in this region. You arrive back in Puerto Natales around 7:30 p.m.

Day two is a full journey to Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park. After border procedures at Don Guillermo Pass, a guide meets you in El Calafate and leads the drive to Perito Moreno Glacier. The park visit lasts 1.5 hours, during which you walk the boardwalks directly in front of the glacier. Multiple viewpoints let you watch for ice falls, some exceeding 70 meters, and if conditions and availability allow, you can add a one-hour boat navigation in front of the glacier for an additional cost. The entire day is structured around the return to Puerto Natales, so timing depends on border crossing and weather.

Both days run under shared transportation with a bilingual guide who speaks English and Spanish. The tour suits all fitness levels, though day one includes a one-hour walk to Gray Lake and day two involves walking the glacier boardwalks. Weather can affect visibility and access to certain viewpoints and the glacier boat option, so flexibility helps.

Is this one for you?Two full days means you see both parks without rushing the viewpoints, but it also means an early start on day one and a long day two with border crossing. If you have only one day, a single-park tour works better. If you want more time at the glacier or to add the boat ride without time pressure, a longer itinerary suits you.

What are the Torres del Paine granite towers and where do you see them on this tour?

The Torres del Paine are three iconic granite formations that rise from the Paine Range in the national park. On day one, you see them first from Laguna Amarga sector, where they appear in their most direct view, and again from multiple viewpoints as you drive along Lake Pehoé and stop at various overlooks throughout the day.

Is lunch included, and what should I bring to eat?

Lunch is not included in the tour price. You have a 40-minute stop at Pehoé campsite on day one where you can eat food you bring from Puerto Natales, or you can purchase items at cafeterias at Cerro Castillo or other stops along the route.

What happens at Milodon Cave, and how long do you spend there?

Milodon Cave is a natural monument where you visit an audiovisual room and enter the large cave itself to see a replica of the Milodon, an extinct animal that lived in Patagonia thousands of years ago. The visit lasts approximately one hour and is included on day one.

Can I take a boat ride on Perito Moreno Glacier, and is it included?

A one-hour boat navigation in front of Perito Moreno Glacier is available on day two, but it is not included in the tour price and costs extra. It is only possible if there is confirmed availability, if weather and border crossing delays allow it, and if you choose to add it at checkout.

What time does day one end, and when do I return to Puerto Natales?

Day one ends around 7:30 p.m. when you arrive back at your hotel in Puerto Natales. Day two timing depends on border procedures and weather conditions, but the tour is structured to return you to Puerto Natales by evening.

Do I need a passport for this tour?

Yes. Day two crosses the border into Argentina at Don Guillermo Pass, so a valid passport is required. Border procedures are part of the day, and delays can affect the schedule.
