The experience
The day starts at 7 am heading south toward Torres del Paine National Park. Before entering, you stop in Villa Cerro Castillo at a local cafeteria where you can grab coffee, food or souvenirs, then continue to two viewpoints (Lago Sarmiento and Laguna Amarga), where you get your first views of the Torres themselves if weather allows. Entry to the park happens at the Laguna Amarga gate. You'll need a separate ticket (purchased online before the tour) that varies by whether you're a national or foreign visitor.
Inside Torres del Paine, the guide takes you to four viewpoints in sequence: Lago Nordenskjold, Salto Grande, Lago Pehoe and Lago Grey, each one framing a different angle of the park's granite peaks and glacial water. The route follows the main park road, and what you see depends on weather: clear days show the full Torres profile. Cloudy ones still reveal the scale of the landscape. After leaving the park, you drive about an hour to Milodon Cave, where you'll need another separate ticket (also online, also variable by visitor type).
At Milodon Cave, a 350-meter walking trail takes you to a full-size statue of the Milodon (an extinct ground sloth that roamed Patagonia thousands of years ago), and into the large cave where archaeologists found evidence of the animal's presence. The cave visit runs 45 minutes to an hour. After that, the driver returns you to your pickup point in Puerto Natales, completing the nine-hour day.
