The tour starts at the dock in Puerto Montt, visiting the city's typical sites before heading to Puerto Varas, a town of 35,000 people known for streets lined with roses and German colonial architecture dating back to 1852. The wooden larch houses and local cuisine reflect that heritage. Puerto Varas sits directly across Lake Llanquihue, one of Patagonia's largest lakes, and the water views frame the whole stop.
From there you continue to Frutillar, a small town also built by German settlers, positioned on the lake's opposite shore. The town has wooden houses, manicured gardens and Teatro del Lago, which hosts classical music performances. You walk the lakefront street with views of the Andes and volcanoes across the water. Craft shops line the main streets, and a German café with local cakes is available if you want to stop (at your own cost). The guide is with you throughout, speaking English, Spanish, Portuguese, French or one of two other languages.
