The experience

The Petrohué River is a natural highway through the park: turquoise water, native forest pressing close on both banks, and the volcanoes visible downstream the whole way. Hotel pickup starts the day, and the guide meets you at the river with helmet, wetsuit, personal flotation device and paddle already sorted. You spend the afternoon in the boat. The descent takes ninety minutes, and the guide positions the group so everyone paddles and everyone sees. Calbuco, Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes frame the run. The guide points them out and names what you are paddling through. Snacks and beverages are included, and the day ends with a return to your hotel.

A moderate level of fitness matters here (you are paddling, not floating), and the guide will ask about your comfort level before you launch.
