The experience
The morning starts at the ranch, not in the saddle. You'll begin by learning how to bring in the horses, feed them, and prepare the tack: understanding how your horse thinks before you ride it. Your guide covers the fundamentals: body position, communication, and control. No previous experience is required, and the instruction is built around questions and practice, not a fixed script. Once you feel ready, you leave the ranch.
The ride itself crosses open countryside, forest, and changing terrain toward the slopes of Terevaka. Your guide continues teaching as you go, adjusting the difficulty and the route based on how you're handling the horse and the ground. A small private format means there's time to stop when you need it, ask questions, and actually absorb what you're learning instead of being rushed through a predetermined loop. The whole experience runs about four hours.
Pickup is included from your accommodation. The vehicle is air-conditioned, which matters on Easter Island. Guides are available in English and Spanish. You'll need a high level of physical fitness for the ride itself (the terrain and the balance required are real), and there's a weight limit of 210 pounds.
