Step-by-step itinerary

Evening stargazing and cultural tour

  • Tour northeast coast at dusk
  • Listen to Rapa Nui legends
  • Stargaze with professional telescopes
  • Enjoy traditional Polynesian music
  • Visit Anakena Beach at night
  • Professional photo session with Moai

The experience

Three to four hours takes you from the northeast coast of Easter Island to Anakena Beach, moving through two distinct parts of the evening. You start by meeting members of the Rapa Nui community, edutanuis, who share legends and oral history rooted in their people's connection to the cosmos. As darkness falls, professional telescopes come out and you explore constellations, planets and nebulae of the southern hemisphere sky, with traditional Polynesian music playing in the background.

The experience ends at Anakena Beach, where a professional photographer captures you among the Moai statues under the starlit sky. Private transportation is included throughout, along with a cultural meal featuring local flavors, refreshments, and Poe: a traditional homemade banana cake from the island. A live guide conducts the tour in English or Spanish, and the whole evening is built around what the Rapa Nui people themselves understand about the stars overhead.

Weather on Rapa Nui is unpredictable, and the operator reserves the right to cancel up to four hours before departure if rain or adverse conditions make observation unsafe. This is a force majeure policy tied to the island's conditions, not a service failure. The tour welcomes children from age 6 onward, and infants can ride in a pram or stroller or sit on an adult's lap.

Is this one for you? This is a private group tour led by Rapa Nui guides, so you experience the sky through both the telescope and the ancestral knowledge of the people who have read it for centuries. Choose it if you want stargazing paired with cultural context rather than astronomy alone, and if you can accept that weather cancellations up to four hours before departure are part of observing the southern sky from a remote island.
