Guided Panoramic Tour in Valparaíso: Hills, Elevators & Murals
Three and a half hours across Valparaíso's hills, elevators built in 1901, and the colored streets of Cerro Alegre and Concepción
A guided panoramic tour of Valparaíso takes you through the Puerto neighborhood, up two traditional elevators to the hilltop districts, and back down by trolleybus: covering the docks, heritage sectors, murals, and viewpoints that frame the city's bay and neighboring coastal towns. The tour includes elevator and trolley tickets and is designed as a pleasant walk with mechanical lifts doing the climbing, so it suits visitors of any age or fitness level. A live guide in English or Spanish leads the group and recommends lunch spots for the rest of your day.

The experience
The tour starts at Plaza Sotomayor in the Puerto sector, where your guide introduces the day and waits for all participants to arrive. From Prat Wharf you'll see the working port (large vessels, the naval molo, the bay, and the hills rising behind it) all from water level. Then you walk through the streets where Valparaíso began: La Matriz church, Plaza Echaurren, the Monument to Arturo Prat, and the Court of Appeals, moving through the original commercial heart of the city.
The Elevator El Peral, built in 1901 and still showing its original mechanism, carries you up to Cerro Alegre in a single lift. From there you see Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, and Con Con in one view. The guide compares what you're looking at now to the city's golden age and explains the geography that shaped it. You then walk through Cerro Alegre and Concepción on foot, moving through the typical streets, colored stairs, and murals that make these hills distinct. A second elevator brings you back down to the city plan without physical effort, and you finish at Aníbal Pinto, a traditional meeting place, where you board the trolleybus for the return.
The entire tour runs about three and a half hours. Elevator and trolley tickets are included, so there's no separate payment at each stop. The guide will point out restaurants and bars along the way so you can plan what comes next in your day.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 19 years); Child (3 to 11 years); Infant (under 3).
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is Cerro Concepción like when we get there?
Cerro Concepción is one of Valparaíso's hilltop neighborhoods known for its typical streets, colorful murals, and colored stairs. The guide walks you through it after you've ridden the Elevator El Peral up to Cerro Alegre, and the murals and views are the main draw of this part of the tour.
Do we have to walk the whole time, or are there elevators?
Two traditional elevators are part of the tour. The Elevator El Peral takes you up to Cerro Alegre (built in 1901 and still operating with its original mechanism visible), and a second elevator brings you back down to the city plan. The walking happens on the hilltops and through the Puerto neighborhood streets, but the steep climbs are handled by the elevators.
What does the guide show us at Prat Wharf?
From Prat Wharf you see the Port of Valparaíso with its large international trade vessels, the naval molo with warships, the city bay, and the hills beyond. It's the point where you get a full view of the working harbor and the geography that frames the city.

The tour is wheelchair accessible and designed to be a pleasant walk up and down the hills by elevator, so the steep climbing is done mechanically rather than on foot. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and the operator notes it suits all physical fitness levels.
Are there places to eat during the tour?
The tour passes through restaurants and bars in the Puerto neighborhood and on the hills, and your guide will recommend specific places based on your taste so you can plan lunch or a break for the rest of your day.
