The experience

The day starts with pickup from your accommodation in Puerto Natales, followed by a two-hour drive to the Welcome Center at the park entrance. From there, the hike itself splits into two parts: a 4-5 hour ascent through changing terrain to Base Torres, where the three granite peaks rise directly above you, then a 4-5 hour descent back to the Welcome Center. The return drive to Puerto Natales takes another two hours. A certified WFR guide leads the group in English or Spanish, and an assistant guide joins groups larger than six people.

The trek is rated moderate to moderately-high, which means sustained climbing and uneven ground underfoot, but the route is well-established and the small group size, capped at 12 people, keeps the pace manageable. Hiking poles and crampons are provided if you need them. You'll move through open steppe, then into more rugged alpine terrain as you gain elevation. The viewpoint itself sits at the base of the towers rather than at a summit, so the final approach does not require technical climbing, though the overall distance and elevation gain demand good cardiovascular fitness and solid hiking experience.

Transportation is included from your hotel, which eliminates the logistics of getting to the trailhead. Park entrance tickets to Torres del Paine are not part of this booking and must be purchased separately. Bring your own food, water and snacks for the day. There are no services on the trail or at Base Torres.

Is this one for you? This is a shared guided trek with a small group, so you hike at a collective pace set by the guide rather than on your own schedule. Choose it if you want the security of a certified guide, the company of other hikers, and the logistics handled, but bring serious hiking fitness, because the 20 kilometers and the sustained climbing demand it.
