The experience

Your first day is arrival and settling in. If you fly into Puerto Natales Airport, a transfer meets you and takes you to your hotel. If you land in Punta Arenas, you take a scenic three-hour bus across the Patagonian steppe to Puerto Natales, where a representative collects you at the terminal. The rest of the afternoon is free to walk the waterfront or rest before the excursions begin.

Day two is Torres del Paine National Park and the Milodon Cave. After breakfast, you drive into the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, stopping first at the Milodon Cave Natural Monument, where remains of a prehistoric animal were found. The route then passes Cerro Castillo for a coffee break before entering the park itself. Inside, short walks take you to lakes with vivid colors, the Salto Grande waterfall, and Grey Lake, where icebergs float in front of the Grey Glacier. Along the way, guanacos, condors and rheas are common sights. A box lunch is included en route. You return to Puerto Natales in the afternoon.

Day three is the fjord navigation to the Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers. You travel 15 minutes to Puerto Bories Pier and board a vessel that sails through Última Esperanza Sound. The boat passes the historic Bories Meatpacking Plant, colonies of Imperial Cormorants, sea lions and native forests of coigüe, lenga and canelo. You sail close to the Balmaceda Glacier, then disembark for a 20-minute walk to the Serrano Glacier, where a traditional Patagonian lunch waits at Estancia Perales before the return to town in the afternoon.

On day four, a transfer takes you to Puerto Natales Airport for your flight, or to the bus terminal if you are heading back to Punta Arenas. The operator assists with the final transfer to the airport.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (11 to 21 years); Child (5 to 10 years); Infant (1 to 4 years).

What is the Milodon Cave and why is it on this tour?

The Milodon Cave Natural Monument is a site where remains of an ancient prehistoric animal were discovered. It sits on the route into Torres del Paine National Park and is the first stop on day two, giving a glimpse into Patagonia's deep past before the day moves into the park's landscapes.

Can I see glaciers up close on this tour, or only from a distance?

You see the Grey Glacier from Grey Lake inside Torres del Paine on day two, and on day three you sail close to the Balmaceda Glacier from the boat. The Serrano Glacier requires a 20-minute walk along a trail to reach it, so you stand in front of it rather than viewing it from afar.

What wildlife might I spot during the four days?

Guanacos, condors and rheas are common sights inside Torres del Paine National Park. On the fjord navigation, you'll see colonies of Imperial Cormorants and sea lions as the boat moves through Última Esperanza Sound.

If I arrive in Punta Arenas instead of Puerto Natales, how does that change the first day?

You take a bus from Punta Arenas bus terminal for a three-hour journey across the Patagonian steppe to Puerto Natales. A representative meets you at the Puerto Natales bus terminal and transfers you to your hotel, where the rest of the day is free.

Are meals included during the excursions, or only at the hotel?

Lunches are included during both full-day excursions: a box lunch en route on the Torres del Paine day, and a traditional Patagonian lunch at Estancia Perales on the glacier navigation day. Breakfasts are at your hotel each morning.
