The experience
We stepped out from the little dock near Seven Mile Beach, shoes in hand, and there it was. This bright cabana just bobbing on the water. The air smelled like sunscreen and salt. Our guide, Marcus, grinned and handed us cold bottled water before helping us climb up (I definitely wobbled, he said everyone does). The roof gave enough shade that I didn’t fry, but you could still feel the heat on your arms if you leaned out. There’s something about being out there (away from shore but not too far) that made me feel lighter somehow.
The ocean was so clear you could see your toes dangling below. We cranked up some soca on the Bluetooth speaker (my playlist, sorry to everyone else) and just floated. Marcus laughed when I tried to pronounce “cassava cake” in his accent: pretty sure I butchered it. Every so often a breeze would lift the edge of the cabana roof and you’d get this flash of coolness. I kept thinking how weirdly peaceful it was, even with music and chatter. At one point a pelican swooped by so close we all ducked instinctively.
