The Experience

The first thing I noticed was the silence up there—just a few of us on the Blackcomb Gondola, drifting above the trees. Our guide, Jamie, pointed out where the Sasquatch zipline starts, way higher than I’d pictured. My palms were already sweaty before we even got to the launch platform. You could smell pine needles in the air and hear this faint river sound somewhere below. The helmet felt snug but honestly, I was more worried about my shoelaces coming undone than anything else.

Standing at the edge, looking across that whole valley—it’s over two kilometers to the other side—they clipped me in and suddenly it was just wind and sky. The first second is pure drop; my stomach did this weird flip (not gonna lie, I might’ve squeaked). Then it’s just flying. Cold air stings your cheeks and you can see lakes glinting down below, little dots of people moving around Whistler Village. Jamie yelled something about a glacier view but I couldn’t really hear him over my own heartbeat.

After landing (legs like jelly), we walked a bit to the mid-station for the Whistler Gondola. Everyone was grinning like idiots—somebody tried to high-five me but I missed because my hands were still shaking. There’s this mix of relief and wanting to do it again right away.
