The Experience

The helicopter lifts off from the north end of Whistler Valley and climbs toward the Coast Mountains. From the air, you pass over the Peak 2 Peak Gondola connecting Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, then head into the backcountry most visitors never see—the ski runs and bike tracks visible from above, the hidden valleys, the terrain that only makes sense from this angle. Your pilot narrates the flight in real time, pointing out what's below and answering questions as you go.

The route takes you over Garibaldi Provincial Park to see Garibaldi Lake, Cheakamus Lake, the Black Tusk, and Rainbow Glacier and Cheakamus Glacier. Whistler Village appears below as a cluster of rooftops and lakes dotting the valley floor. If weather cooperates, the helicopter lands on Rainbow Mountain for 15 minutes—you step out onto the glacier, stand at altitude, and see the range stretch to the horizon before climbing back in for the return flight.

The whole flight runs between 24 and 45 minutes depending on conditions and which route the pilot chooses. You'll be in a helicopter with up to four other passengers, seated so everyone gets a window. Service animals are welcome; infants sit on an adult's lap. No special fitness level is required—the flight itself does all the work.
