The experience

The tour starts at Centre Island, a 10-minute ferry ride from downtown. You'll board a Voyageur canoe (the same style traders used centuries ago), and the guide will teach you how to paddle as a team, correcting your strokes from inside the boat. Everyone wears a life jacket. The waterways around the 15-island archipelago stay calm and sheltered even though the park draws crowds on land. From the water, the channels feel secluded.

You paddle through the islands for the first part of the hour, stopping to look at wildlife and plants, taking photos at quieter spots.
