Edmonton River Valley Segway Trek: 90-Minute Winter Ride
The training takes half an hour, leaving you the rest of the time to actually ride.
A 90-minute Segway class in Edmonton's river valley that starts with 30 minutes of certified training from a Segway instructor, then moves into a guided ride through the parkland for the remainder of the session. Groups stay under 10 people, and riders must be at least 14 years old; a minimum of 2 people per booking is required.
The Experience
How much of the 90 minutes is actually riding? That's the question most people ask, and the answer is built into how this works. You spend roughly the first 30 minutes in training with a certified Segway trainer who walks you through the skills and drills you need—balance, steering, stopping, the feel of the machine under you. Everyone learns at their own pace, so the trainer adjusts. Once you've got it, you're done training and the real time starts: the rest of the session is a guided ride through Edmonton's river valley, the largest urban parkland in North America.
The ride itself moves through winter terrain, and you get a helmet, a Segway PT to yourself, and a certified guide leading the group. The guide is there to keep things moving safely and to point out where you're going. You'll have chances to stop for photos along the way. The whole thing wraps in 90 minutes from start to finish, which means you're not spending half your morning on logistics—you're in and out with time left in your day.
Segways are stable once you're moving, and the trainer won't send you out until you're ready. Groups max out at 10 people, so it's not a crowd. If you're 14 or older and can stand and balance, you're in the right shape for this. Bring layers for the cold; hand and foot warmers aren't included, but you'll want them.

Is this one for you?The 90 minutes is split between training and riding, so if you want a full afternoon free, this leaves it to you—but if you're hoping to spend most of your time actually on the machine, the first half is instruction. Book this if you're new to Segways and want a guide who won't rush the learning part.

How much experience do I need to ride a Segway?
None at all. The first 30 minutes of your 90-minute session is a training clinic with a certified Segway trainer who teaches you everything from scratch—balance, steering, stopping, and how to move safely. You don't leave the training area until your trainer is confident you're ready.
What's the river valley like in winter?
Edmonton's river valley is North America's largest urban parkland, and in winter it's open and rideable. The terrain is parkland, not wilderness, so the ride is accessible. You'll be on a guided route with your group, and the guide leads the pace.
Can children ride?
Children can ride if they're at least 14 years old and accompanied by an adult. Younger children can't operate a Segway on this tour, but infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller if an adult is riding.
What happens if I'm not ready after the training?
The trainer works at your pace during the 30-minute training session. If you need more time to get comfortable, the trainer will give it to you. You don't move to the ride portion until you're ready.
What's included in the price?
The Segway training clinic, your Segway PT for the ride, a helmet, a Segway Operator License, luggage storage, and a certified guide for your group are all included. Photo stops are built into the route.
Is this tour accessible if I have mobility concerns?
The tour is wheelchair accessible. It's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, and pregnant travelers should skip it. If you have questions about a specific condition, ask before booking.
