The tour picks you up at your Calgary accommodation and heads straight into the park without a meeting point. Your guide is a local who knows where the light hits best and which trails suit your pace. Lake Louise comes first. You'll walk the frozen lake in winter or the shoreline in summer, with Chateau Lake Louise and glacier peaks as the backdrop. Johnston Canyon follows, where you walk through a tunnel carved into the rock to stand closer to the lower falls. In winter, the canyon becomes an ice walk with provided rivet shoes.

Bow Falls is the third major stop, the river that appeared in 1950s films and still draws photographers for its framing against the peaks. From there you swing past Surprise Corner for shots of Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel against the craggy ridgeline, and Lake Minnewanka if you want it. The tour builds in free time in downtown Banff so you can eat at one of the restaurants there: the operator notes the steakhouses especially. Because it's private, you're not synced to anyone else's schedule. If a viewpoint holds you, you stay.
