The experience
Four to five hours gets you across Phnom Penh, onto a ferry, and into the working day of Silk Island without rushing. You're picked up at your hotel and driven through the city to the dock, then ferried across the Mekong to an island where the pace is set by crops and looms, not by a schedule. Once there, you work alongside farmers in the fields, getting soil under your hands to understand how the island feeds itself.
The silk weavers are the draw most travelers come for. You watch the full production cycle, from raw fiber to finished cloth, at a traditional workshop, then browse their shop for hand-crafted pieces. Your private guide walks you through the island's tiny villages and sunbaked countryside, explaining how people live here, and you set the speed. Tea, coffee, and chilled water come with the tour.
A tuk-tuk carries one or two passengers. Groups of three or more travel by minivan. The ferry crossing is included, as is entry to the silk farm. The whole thing ends with a return to your hotel.
