The experience
You leave Phnom Penh at 4:30 am from the National Pediatric Hospital (or your hotel for private groups of two or more) and drive 150 kilometers to Taing Bompong village, with breakfast at a local restaurant along the way. From the village, a tractor carries you for about 90 minutes to the base of Khnang Phsa mountain. Then you hike with your own backpack roughly 12 kilometers along the trail, passing four main slopes and a viewpoint, with a lunch break built in. You arrive at the campsite around 3 pm, set up your tent, and have the option to walk about one kilometer to a waterfall for a swim before returning to watch the sunset from camp and share dinner with the group.
On day two, you wake around 4:15 am (optional) and trek for about 30 minutes to the summit at 1,177 meters to catch the sunrise and take in the 360-degree landscape. After breakfast, coffee and tea at the top, you explore nearby viewpoints before heading back to the campsite. You pack up, refill water, and trek back down the same trail with a lunch stop, reaching the village around 2 pm. The drive back to Phnom Penh takes about six hours, with an expected arrival around 8 pm.
The tour is private, meaning your group hikes and camps together without joining strangers. A live guide leads in English throughout, and the operator handles hotel pickup and dropoff. The sleeping bag and pillow are optional add-ons for $5 each if you prefer not to bring your own.
