From there the route moves through 300 houses built during the French administration, then to the Governor House, a building tied to some of the city's darkest history. A local guide who has lived in Battambang all his life can explain what each place meant and why it matters now, not as a textbook account but as someone whose family was here through the changes.

The temples on the route show how many religions shaped the city: a Chinese temple, Hindu and Buddhist sites, and a Christian presence. Each one tells something about how Battambang was a trading center where merchants and faiths moved through. The White Elephant monument marks the period when Thailand controlled the city; the Naga Peace monument marks the end of war.
