The experience
The day starts with a walk through riparian forest, about 500 meters, where you'll see natural springs feeding into the Sucuri River and stop at viewpoints to watch the water sources. Once you reach the river, you put on the neoprene wetsuit, mask and snorkel, then float the 1800-meter route downstream. The water is clear enough to see the river bottom and the schools of small fish moving through the vegetation. The colors shift from emerald to pale green as the depth changes. A support boat follows your group the whole way, so there's always someone there if you need help.
Groups max out at nine people per float, which keeps the experience quieter and reduces the impact on the river ecosystem. You'll wear the provided diving equipment (neoprene boots, wetsuit, mask and snorkel) throughout the float. The farm at the start has hammocks, a bar and restaurant if you want to rest or eat after, plus lockers to store your belongings and a shop for souvenirs. Your guide speaks Portuguese and will point out the fish and vegetation as you drift. The whole activity runs about 2 hours on average, including the forest walk and the float itself.
Hotel pickup is included for most hotels in Bonito's urban center, and you'll need to be at your lobby 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Bring a towel and wear light clothes for the walk. Sunscreen and insect repellent aren't allowed in the water. Children under 6 cannot participate, and the activity isn't suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancies over 20 weeks.

Is this one for you?Groups of up to nine work best here, since the small size keeps the river quieter and protects the ecosystem. This float suits anyone comfortable in water who wants to drift and watch fish rather than swim actively. The support boat means you're never alone if you need help.

What's the Sucuri River like when you're floating through it?
