The experience
You arrive at your hotel in São Paulo and get picked up for the one-hour drive to São Roque, a region with more than 30 wineries, restaurants, farms and distilleries spread along the wine route. The day starts with a panoramic sightseeing tour through the town itself, then you move into the wine world proper. Over the next several hours, you visit four to five establishments (a mix of wineries and distilleries) stopping long enough at each one to taste their wines, learn how they're made, and sample the region's typical products: local cheeses, sweets, and cachaça, the traditional Brazilian liqueur that's a point of pride here.
At midday you have free time to eat lunch at one of the best wineries in town, where you can order Italian, Portuguese or Brazilian food (meals are not included in the tour price). This break gives you a chance to sit down and absorb what you've tasted so far, or to explore the winery grounds on your own. After lunch, the tour continues with a guided walk through the production part of the largest winery, where you see how the wine is actually made, then taste four more wines to finish the day. By late afternoon you're back at your hotel in São Paulo.
A live guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese throughout the day. For groups of four or fewer, the guide drives the vehicle. Larger groups get a dedicated driver so the guide can focus on the tastings and commentary. All entrance fees, transport, parking and tolls are covered, so there's nothing to arrange once you're picked up.
Is this one for you?Book this tour if you're staying in São Paulo and have a full day free to spend outside the city. The eight-hour length and one-hour drive each way mean you need a morning start and a flexible afternoon, but it covers the entire wine route experience in a single departure rather than splitting it across multiple days.
