The experience
The tour starts with a drive through Salvador's urban beaches, with a photo stop possible at Itapuã, then heads north along the coconut road toward Praia do Forte. This route cuts through a Sapiranga sustainable forest preservation region, where the landscape shifts from city to tropical vegetation. The guide travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of two additional languages.
At Praia do Forte, you'll see the castle built in 1551 by Garcia D'Ávila: one of the first large Portuguese buildings in Brazil and a landmark of the country's colonial defense. The village itself is the heart of the area: a charming, walkable center where locals and visitors mix, with a mix of rustic and upscale shops, restaurants and services. From there, you move to the Tamar Project, a museum dedicated to sea turtle conservation and one of Brazil's most visited. The project sits in an area of high biodiversity and natural beauty, and it's where you learn about the turtles that nest and live along this coast. You'll also have time at Praia do Forte's natural pools and the fishing village by the sea before the tour ends at Guarajuba beach, where you have free time to swim, dive or relax at one of the beachfront tents and restaurants.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. The full day runs eight hours. If you're arriving by cruise ship, pickup at the cruise terminal is available as an option at checkout.
