The Experience

The tour starts at the Meeting of the Waters on day one, where the dark Rio Negro and the lighter Solimões flow side by side before merging into the Amazon River. From there, the route moves through January Lake to see floating houses built in the flood zone, then into the Igapós—flooded forest canals where you paddle by canoe looking for monkeys, sloths, anacondas and water lilies. After fishing for piranhas in the late afternoon, the day ends with a night tour using flashlights to spot and temporarily capture alligators; the guide explains their behavior before releasing them back into the river.

Day two begins before dawn to watch birds and forest activity, then shifts to Paraiso village to observe rubber milk extraction and processing at a working plantation. A beach swim breaks up the morning before lunch. In the afternoon, you visit an indigenous community to participate in rituals and folk dancing (optional), then move into the jungle for the first night camping. The guide helps set up camp, leads a trail walk, and oversees an improvised barbecue dinner cooked over a fire you help build.

The third day starts with a 6 AM jungle trail walk before returning to the boat for breakfast. The route then follows the Anavilhanas archipelago, exploring its Igapós by canoe. After lunch, you cross the Rio Negro to interact with Tucuxi dolphins (optional), then visit a Ribeirinho house—a native settlement where you see a cassava flour mill and learn how cassava is processed into flour. A night canoe ride follows dinner before returning to the boat.

The final morning includes fishing for piranhas on the Ariau River, bird and monkey watching, a swim, and return to Manaus by early afternoon. The boat captain adjusts the route based on river levels and weather, and all activities from days one through three are included in the price.
