The experience
The tour departs from Salvador's nautical terminal and sails aboard a traditional schooner across the bay. Ilha dos Frades, one of 56 islands in the bay, is the first stop: you'll have approximately 2.5 hours to swim in the water, walk up to the island's church viewpoint, relax on the beach, or sample local snacks at beachfront kiosks. The island has beaches, lakes, waterfalls, and native vegetation including Pau-Brazil trees. An environmental fee of BRL 10 per person is collected on arrival.
After the break, the schooner continues to Itaparica, Brazil's largest island and a site with preserved colonial architecture and religious groups of African origin. A small boat ferries you ashore to the restaurant area, where you can swim, walk the beaches, or eat at a local restaurant specializing in regional cuisine. Lunch is optional and paid separately unless you book the lunch-inclusive version at checkout. The afternoon is unscheduled, letting you move at your own pace.
The boat provides a group guide who speaks Portuguese or Spanish. This is not a private guide service. The tour runs 8 hours total. Air-conditioned transport is included, and infant seats are available if needed. The minimum booking is 2 adults.

Is this one for you?Book the base option if you want to choose where and what to eat on the islands. Choose the lunch-inclusive version if you prefer to have a meal arranged and paid for in advance. Either way, the shared guide and fixed schedule mean you're moving with a group, so the pace is set by the boat's timetable rather than your own timing.
