The tour starts with a pass along Praia de Iracema and the statue of Iracema Guardiã, a 1996 sculpture by Zenon Barreto that overlooks the water. The Central Market comes next, a building from 1866 now housing 105 stores and kiosks where Ceará's handicrafts fill the shelves: bobbin lace, wooden toys, raw cotton clothes, and local sweets, jams and cachaças. You'll have time to walk through and browse, though purchases are your own choice.

Avenida Beira-Mar, the main waterfront street, shows the city's hotel district and the Meireles neighborhood, which has the highest development index in Fortaleza. Praia do Futuro, one of the capital's best-known beaches, appears next: the tour passes the famous beach huts that serve seafood by day and host musical shows at night. Then the route heads south to Cumbuco Beach, where the day opens up. The beach itself has white sand and a freshwater lagoon fed by dunes. You can sit in a beach hut, eat, and watch the water, or you can arrange buggy rides through the dunes, dune skiing (called esquibunda, where you slide sitting down into the lagoon), or kitesurfing lessons. All of these are booked and paid for on the spot, not part of the tour package.
