The experience
Curitiba's landmarks sit scattered across the city, and this tour strings them together in a single morning. You start from your hotel and move through the Botanical Garden (opened in 1991 with a greenhouse modeled on London's 19th-century Crystal Palace), then walk Rua XV de Novembro, the pedestrian street lined with hundred-year-old buildings that earned it the nickname Flower Street when it opened in 1972. The guide handles the route and the stories. You walk and look.
The tour reaches the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, recognizable by its distinctive eye-shaped building, and continues to Tanguá Park, a green space carved from an old quarry with two lakes and a waterfall. The Wire Opera House sits in the middle of an artificial lake inside another former quarry, accessed by a walkway: a steel-tube structure that stands out against the urban park around it. You'll also see the Curitiba Cathedral, a small wooden church built in 1668, and finish at Tiradentes Square, one of the capital's main public spaces.
The guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese depending on which you choose at booking. Hotel pickup is included for most Curitiba hotels, and the tour lasts four hours. Entrance to the Wire Opera House itself is not included, though you can buy a ticket on site if you want to go inside. Infants can ride in a stroller, and the pace suits all fitness levels.
