The experience
The tour starts in the central square with a guide who lives here, setting out the route and what you'll see. You'll walk past the city's only cinema, a landmark in Brazilian film history, and onto Rua das Pedras, the street where Búzios' story begins. From there the path follows the Orla Bardot, the waterfront promenade edging Praia da Armação, where colonial mansions, bars and restaurants line the way. The guide talks through the entire history as you walk, pointing out the islet facing the shore where pirates are said to have hidden, and the monuments and sculptures that mark the city's past.
You'll stop at the statue of Brigitte Bardot, the French actress who fell in love with the region and whose name is tied to the waterfront itself, and at the fishermen's sculpture that represents the city's maritime roots. The tour ends at the historic Igreja de Sant'Ana, a church perched on high ground between two beaches, where the views open up across the area. From there, if you want to stay on the water, you can book the optional catamaran ride as an add-on.
