The experience
The day starts with a schooner ride along the northern coast of the Búzios peninsula. You'll see 12 beaches and two islands from the water, with three designated stops where you can swim and snorkel in calm bays. Azeda Beach, small and sheltered, is the first. João Fernandes, ringed by hotels and kiosks, is the second. Each stop runs about 30 minutes, and you can stay on deck or wade in. The boat carries an experienced crew and a guide who speaks your language.
After the water stops, you return to Búzios town for lunch at Rua das Pedras, the main pedestrian street lined with shops, bars and restaurants. The meal is included. Drinks and dessert are on you. Then comes the trolley tour: an open-air car that moves slowly through the town, stopping at the Bardot shore (named for Brigitte Bardot, with bronze sculptures and a boardwalk of wooden decks), and at smaller coves like the one near Ponta da Lagoinha, a rock formation with natural pools and views the operator calls "Brazilian Himalayan" for its geological formations. The trolley lets you see the town without walking the full distance yourself.
Roundtrip transportation from most hotels and inns in Cabo Frio is included in the price. The tour runs eight hours total. It's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, but it suits all other fitness levels. If you prefer not to use the hotel pickup, public transportation options are available nearby.
