The experience
The tour starts with an 8:30 am pickup from your Manaus hotel and a two-hour drive to President Figueiredo. On arrival, you head straight into a two-and-a-half-hour jungle walk through Maroaga Cave and Judeia Cave, where towering rock formations and ancient passages cut through the rainforest. After the hike, you stop at Asframa, a private complex with calm waters at the town's entrance, then move on to a rapid where lunch, roasted fish, is served and locals come on weekends to escape the heat. You overnight in a lodge in town with air-conditioned rooms, private bathrooms and beds.
Day two begins after breakfast at 8:30 am with a visit to Iracema Waterfall complex, where three waterfalls, caves and rock formations give you time to swim and explore at a relaxed pace. Lunch is included at Urubui Rapids, another spot in the region where the jungle rises around rushing water. Afterward, you visit Crystal Lake (known for water so clear you can see straight through it), and the Red River, named for the reddish tint its organic-rich water carries. Both sit in the same area and offer swimming and photography. The return to Manaus takes about two hours along the BR-174 highway, with drop-off at your hotel or another location you choose.
Your guide speaks English and knows the region's geology, wildlife and Amazonian ecosystems. The tour balances activity (the cave hikes and water crossings) with time to swim and rest at natural pools. A cooler with bottled water travels with you in the vehicle.
