Kasane is your starting point. Around 11am, pickup arrives at your accommodation for a 3-hour transfer on tarred road to the pans. Once you switch to a 4x4 safari vehicle, the landscape changes entirely. The afternoon is spent exploring the Makgadikgadi salt pans, one of the largest in the world. The terrain is stark and open, often compared to the surface of the moon. Your guide navigates the dry expanse while you take in the scale of it.

Dinner happens around the campfire at the pans themselves. Bedding and all camping equipment are provided. You sleep under the stars rather than in a tent. Breakfast follows the next morning, then a final 4x4 excursion takes you back out of the pans toward Kasane or Maun, with an anticipated midday arrival. The whole route is built around what the vehicle can reach and what the landscape allows: no roads cross the salt, only the track your guide knows.
