Mangrove Kayak and Snorkel Tour in Bonaire: Exclusive Spots
Paddle through mangroves to discover hidden underwater life and secret snorkeling spots
A 2-hour kayak and snorkel tour in Bonaire's Lac Bay mangroves, guided by a certified expert trained by STINAPA, takes you to exclusive snorkeling spots accessible only by water. The mangrove ecosystem is a RAMSAR-protected wetland, so access is by guided kayak only. Pickup and return are included in one option; children from age 5 are welcome, and infants can ride in a pram or stroller.
The Experience
You paddle into Lac Bay's mangroves with a certified guide who knows where the marine life congregates and what the ecosystem actually is—not just what it looks like from above. The kayak gets you to snorkeling spots you cannot reach on foot, and the guide's training through STINAPA means the information you get is grounded in conservation, not just tourism. About 25 minutes of the tour is spent in the water, mask on, watching the intricate ecosystems beneath the surface. On the paddle back, keep an eye out for sea turtles moving through the clear water.
The operation is built around comfort and the wetland itself. Snorkel gear is available to borrow—masks and snorkels—though you can bring your own. Dry bags keep your phone and keys safe during the paddle. After you're done, an outdoor shower lets you rinse off, and secure lockers hold your belongings while you're on the water. Drinking water is available from a sustainable machine that extracts it from the air, so you can refill your bottle between paddling and snorkeling.
Pickup and return are included if you choose that option; without pickup, you arrange your own way to the launch point. Children from age 5 can join; younger children and infants can ride in a pram or stroller. The tour runs for about 2.5 hours total, and it suits all fitness levels—the pace is set by the guide and the group, not by speed or distance.

Can I bring my own snorkel gear, or do I need to use what's provided?
You're welcome to bring your own mask and snorkel. The tour provides gear to borrow if you prefer, so either way works.
What's the difference between this 2-hour tour and a shorter one?
The 2-hour tour takes you deeper into the mangrove ecosystem and covers a larger area than the 1-hour version, giving you more time to explore and more chances to spot marine life in the exclusive snorkeling spots.
Will I definitely see sea turtles?
Sea turtles glide through Lac Bay's waters, and the guide watches for them on the return paddle, but sightings are not guaranteed—they depend on the day and the season.
Is pickup from my hotel included?
Pickup and return are included in one purchase option. The other option lets you arrange your own transport to the launch point.
Can I bring my baby or toddler on this tour?
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available. Children from age 5 can paddle and snorkel with the group.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear something you don't mind getting wet—a rash guard or swimsuit works well. Bring a towel and a change of clothes. Sunscreen is a good idea. The tour provides snorkel gear, dry bags for your belongings, and an outdoor shower afterward.
