Snorkel Klein Bonaire aboard a boat once part of Jacques Cousteau's research fleet, featuring an air-conditioned underwater observation deck where you can view marine life without entering the water. The experience includes drinks, snacks and a three-course dinner; snorkeling equipment is provided. Children from age 6 are welcome, and guides speak English, German and Dutch.

The Experience

The boat itself is the draw here—a vessel specially designed for underwater research that once sailed with Cousteau's expeditions. You'll start with a cruise to Klein Bonaire, then descend into the air-conditioned observation deck to watch the reef unfold below the waterline. It's the same vantage point Cousteau's team used, and you get it without suiting up or getting wet. If you want to snorkel instead, the equipment is onboard and ready; if you'd rather stay dry, you can move between the deck and the rail as the mood strikes.

After the observation deck, the boat moves to a mooring where snorkeling happens in clear water. Drinks and snacks arrive while you're in the water or watching from above. The crew prepares dinner below deck—tuna sashimi, grilled picanha and Dutch apple pie—and you eat as the boat heads back to the starting point. The whole experience runs four hours.

Let the operator know ahead of time if you're vegetarian or have food allergies, or if you don't eat fish; they'll adjust the menu. The Stinapa nature fee and reef-safe sunscreen are separate costs. Cruise ship guests need to confirm their arrival time and account for local time zones, since late arrivals mean a missed tour and no refund.

Can I snorkel the whole time or do I have to use the observation deck?

You choose. The observation deck is available for the first part of the experience, then the boat moves to a mooring where you can snorkel or swim in the clear water. Equipment is provided, and you can move between the water and the deck as you prefer.
