The experience
This tour runs on your schedule, not a fixed itinerary. You arrive with a list of what you want to see, or you ask the guide what matters most and let them build the day around it. The guide is a certified Bonaire resident with long-term knowledge of local lifestyles and places tourists don't usually find on their own. That perspective shapes the commentary: you're not just passing landmarks, you're learning how people actually live on the island and why certain places matter to them.
The route typically moves through the city center and its historic buildings, out to natural coral beaches with views of the seaside, then inland to the flamingo wetlands and the village founded in 1527: the first settlement in the former Netherlands Antilles and still a cultural center for Antilleans. Many tours include the solar salt facility, where you see the production process from the roadside and handle salt samples, plus the original slave quarters built in 1850 for workers in the salt pans. If you want to skip any of these or add something else, you say so and the guide adjusts.
The tour runs about three and a half hours. Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English, Spanish or Dutch depending on your group. Children from age one can come along. Infants and small children can ride in a stroller or pram if needed.
