Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Mayan ruins and natural sites
- Guided tour of Xunantunich ruins
- Visit museum and souvenir shops
- Explore St. Herman’s Cave
- Swim in the Blue Hole
The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Placencia hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your private guide takes you to Xunantunich, the largest Mayan city in Belize, where you walk the ruins and learn the history from someone who knows them. Time is built in for the on-site museum, restrooms and local snacks before you move on.
From there you head to St. Herman's Cave to explore the ancient formations and crystals inside, then cool off with a swim in the Blue Hole itself: a natural freshwater pool fed by underground springs. Lunch is included and served during the day, so you're not hunting for food between stops.
The tour is built as a private booking, so the pace and the stops stay on your schedule. Your guide speaks English or Spanish depending on what you need. Children from age 5 can join, though the cave exploration and swimming mean you'll want kids comfortable with both water and walking uneven ground.
What’s included
- Private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle.
- headlamps for cave exploration.
- lunch for each passenger.
- all entry fees and taxes.
- English or Spanish-speaking guide throughout the day.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (5 to 12 years). Under 5: they can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is the Blue Hole we swim in?
The Blue Hole is a natural freshwater pool fed by underground springs, separate from the famous ocean sinkhole. You swim here after exploring St. Herman's Cave, and it's the cooling-off point that ends the inland portion of the day.
How much walking and climbing is involved at Xunantunich?
Xunantunich requires moderate walking over uneven ground to see the ruins and the museum. The site itself is spread across the Mayan city, so comfortable shoes and a moderate fitness level help, though the pace is set by your group and your guide.
Is lunch included, and what kind of food is it?
Lunch is included for each passenger. The reference material specifies local food, though the exact menu isn't detailed in advance. Your guide can tell you what to expect when you book.
Does the pickup work if we're staying outside Placencia?
Pickup is included from your Placencia hotel. If you're staying elsewhere in the area, confirm your location when you book so the operator can confirm the pickup point.
