The experience

Four to five hours is enough to move through Brussels's main landmarks without rushing. Your guide meets you at your hotel, airport or port and drives you first to the historical Market Square, where the City Hall and surrounding medieval architecture anchor the city's oldest quarter. From there, the coach takes you past St Michael's Cathedral and into the Heysel district to see the Atomium: the giant iron-crystal structure completed in 1958 that draws over 600,000 visitors yearly and has become a national symbol of Belgium.

The route continues through the Japanese Tower and Chinese Pavilion, then into the Sablon district with its rows of antique shops. You pass the Royal Residence's exterior, the Palace of Justice and the Royal Square before reaching the European Parliament area, where your guide explains how Brussels functions as the capital of the EU and touches on the Belgian colonial past visible in the African neighborhood nearby. Cinquantenaire Park, built for Belgium's 50th independence anniversary in 1880, sits along the route: its triumphal arch and sweeping views over the city are visible from the coach.

The coach is air-conditioned and equipped with WiFi and bottled water. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French, and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible. Return transport to your hotel or original departure point concludes the tour.
