You’ll get to see Nassau through local eyes—from historic steps carved by hand to vibrant art galleries and lively food spots. This tour mixes culture, history, and real Bahamian flavor into one easy day with private transport.
The morning air was thick with the scent of salt and fried conch as we climbed out of our cool van at the Queen’s Staircase. Our guide, Dwayne, shared how over 600 enslaved people carved these 66 steps from limestone—took them more than ten years. The stone felt damp under my hand, and you could almost hear the echo of pickaxes if you listened close. It’s shaded here, a relief from the sun that bounces off Parliament Square just a few blocks away.
We rolled past Rawson Square—flags fluttering—and stopped at Pompey Square where kids chased pigeons near the cruise port. At Graycliff, the smell of chocolate hit us before we even stepped inside. I’d never seen a wine cellar so big; it runs under the old building like a secret tunnel. Our driver pointed out the University of the Bahamas and Police College as we passed—easy to miss if you’re not looking.
The National Art Gallery was next. Local artists’ work fills every corner—paintings with wild colors and sculptures made from driftwood. I chatted with a vendor outside who sells tiny straw baskets (she said she’s been here since before Junkanoo got big). We wrapped up at Arawak Cay for fish fry—greasy fingers, cold Kalik beer, laughter from every table. Atlantis loomed across the water on Paradise Island; looked almost unreal in the late afternoon light.
The full tour takes around 4–5 hours depending on traffic and how long you spend at each stop.
You’ll get a good view of Atlantis from outside but won’t have time to go inside during this tour.
