The experience

The drive from Baku takes 90 minutes to reach Shamakhi, a region known for mountain forests and springs. At Alpaca Azerbaijan Farm, located 120 km from Baku in Meysari village, you get a briefing on alpaca behavior and safety, then spend about an hour feeding and handling the animals in their pasture setting. The farm sits in a moderate humidity zone ideal for the animals, with green pastures and mountain views surrounding the property.

After the alpaca farm, you move 10 minutes down the road to Meysari Winery, one of Azerbaijan's newest operations and the first certified organic EU manufacturer. The winery covers 160 hectares and runs a small museum, restaurant and hotel on the grounds. Your guide leads you through the vineyard and into the working winery, where you taste six types of wine paired with olives, cheese, a meat platter, bread and water. This tasting portion takes about an hour. The tour wraps with a 90-minute drive back to your hotel in Baku City Centre.

You'll need to be ready in your hotel lobby 15 minutes before the scheduled pickup. Kids must be at least 4 years old to join. Wine tasting is for guests 18 and over only. A bottle of water per person is provided, and the pace allows time to linger at both stops without rushing.
