The Experience
The tour starts at the Double Gates of the Old City, where you meet your guide and begin exploring Icherisheher on foot. The cobbled streets open onto hidden courtyards, secret passages, and architectural details most visitors miss—the guide points out the stories woven into stone carvings and the everyday life that still moves through these lanes. You'll stand inside the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a UNESCO World Heritage site with its intricate courtyards and ancient halls, then climb the Maiden Tower to see the Old City spread below and the Caspian Sea beyond.
Midway through, you taste authentic Azerbaijani wine and baklava in the Old City, a pause that grounds the history in flavor. The Miniature Book Museum comes next—a collection of tiny books from around the world, each one a small marvel of craft. Then the tour shifts to the modern side: you walk Baku Boulevard, the seaside promenade with its street art and the charming "Little Venice," and pass the Carpet Museum. The Flame Towers rise above the city, their distinctive silhouette marking the skyline.
The funicular ride to Highland Park is included, and it lifts you above the city for sweeping views—the Flame Towers from above, the Caspian stretching out, the whole of Baku laid out for photographs. The vantage point makes the scale of the city clear in a way walking through it cannot.
