From here the coach takes you to Spitz, where the boat departs for the cruise downstream to Melk. On the water you pass Schönbühel Castle on the right bank and see the valley from the river's perspective: a view that changes how the landscape reads. The boat runs April through October. If weather or water levels make it impossible, the operator will adjust the day's route.

At Melk, the abbey dominates the riverbank. If your option includes admission, a guide leads you through the Benedictine monastery: the library, the church, the rooms where monks lived and worked. If you chose the basic option without abbey entry, you have free time to explore the town or view the abbey from outside. The coach returns you to Vienna State Opera by late afternoon or early evening, depending on the season and the day's pace.
