"I assure you that this is a magnificent place," Mozart wrote to his father Leopold in 1781, and when you step into the Mozarthaus Vienna on the Domgasse, you understand exactly what he meant. This is the only apartment Mozart ever occupied in Vienna that still stands intact. The largest, most expensive one he'd ever rented, where he lived from 1784 to 1787 and composed more music than anywhere else in his life. The Marriage of Figaro came from this flat. Three of the six Haydn Quartets. The energy in those rooms is still there, even if the man himself left centuries ago.
