The experience
You start at Balgownie Estate in the Yarra Valley, or arrange pickup from Melbourne CBD if that option is in your package. The Global Ballooning bus takes you to the launch site, where you help with the balloon setup: a hands-on part of the morning that gets you familiar with the equipment before you step into the basket. Once airborne, you float for approximately one hour over rolling hills, vineyards and winding rivers, with an award-winning, locally based pilot guiding the flight. The perspective from the air is what sets this apart: you see the Yarra Valley's world-renowned wineries from above, the farmland laid out in patterns below, and historic towns dating back to the 1830s from a vantage point most visitors never reach.
After landing, you help bring the balloon down, then return to Balgownie Estate. If breakfast is included in your option, you eat while your in-flight photos, captured by GoPro, are shared to the Global Ballooning app so you can download them straight away. You also take home a luxe balloon magnet as a keepsake. The whole experience runs about four hours from start to finish. The flight itself is subject to favorable weather. If conditions don't cooperate, you can reschedule for another date or request a refund.
Three purchase options let you choose what suits your day: flight only, flight with breakfast, or flight with both breakfast and transfers from Melbourne CBD. Children from age 6 can fly with an adult. The operator asks that you advise of any dietary requirements at booking so breakfast can be tailored if you choose that option. Changes made between seven days and 48 hours before the flight incur a $50 per person charge due to limited availability.
