The boat is already moving when you take your seat on the upper deck. Saturday and Sunday nights have live music, which means someone's playing while you eat and the city lights start to come up. If you're visiting between late May and mid-June, you'll cruise through Vivid Sydney — the whole harbour lit in projection and colour. The window seat upgrade costs extra and needs to be locked in at booking, but if you're the type who came to Sydney for the view, it's the one thing worth paying for on this boat. The upper deck is stairs only, no lift, so if you need level access or have mobility questions, the operator asks you to check before you commit.

The whole thing runs a few hours. You depart Darling Harbour, pass Circular Quay, loop past the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and come back. It's not rushed and it's not a crawl.
