The Experience

The 30-minute reef flight departs over Port Douglas and 4 Mile Beach, then heads out to Low Isles and Batt Reef, where you can spot stingrays, manta rays, turtles, sharks and dugongs from above. Winter months sometimes bring whales into view. Snapper Island and Cape Tribulation appear in the distance as the helicopter banks and climbs.

The 45-minute option covers the same reef section but adds more time over the water and coastal landmarks. For a fuller picture, the 60-minute reef and rainforest flight starts the same way—Port Douglas, 4 Mile Beach, Low Isles and Batt Reef—then turns inland to show you Mossman Gorge and the rainforest canopy above Mossman town, the Daintree River mouth, Cape Kimberley and Cow Bay before returning to the reef for the final approach. A live guide narrates the whole route in English, pointing out what you're flying over and what to watch for below.

Check-in is at the Sheraton, where the Nautilus Aviation office handles your safety briefing. Individual passenger weight and carry-on luggage must be declared at booking; weight over 130kg requires purchasing an additional seat at 50% of ticket price. Children aged 3 and above need their own seat at full price; children under 3 may travel free on a parent's lap if conditions allow. Cancellation requires 48 hours' notice for a full refund, or 24–48 hours for 50% back.

Is this one for you?The shared flight format keeps the cost lower than a private charter, and the fixed route means you don't plan the stops—the guide handles the timing and narration. Book the 30-minute reef flight if you want a quick overview of Batt Reef and Low Isles; choose 60 minutes if you want to see both the rainforest inland and the full reef section without rushing.
