The local dishes have names you won't find anywhere else on the island.

The Norfolk Island Fish Fry is a dinner event on a clifftop property where you eat fresh fried fish, local salads, coconut bread and pie while the Baunti Byuutis dancing group performs and the sun sets over the ocean. The event runs about two and a half hours and has operated for over 40 years. You can drive yourself or add bus transfer to your booking. Drinks are available to purchase or bring your own.

The experience

What makes this different from a restaurant meal is the setup: you're eating on the exclusive Western Side property called Orn Dar Cliff, where the view of the ocean at sunset is the real draw. The food arrives hot: fresh fried fish cooked while you're there, alongside salads and local dishes like Pilhi (a savoury banana slice) and Ana (a sweet potato mash with local herbs). Coconut bread and coconut pie with cream finish the meal. Coffee and tea are included.

The live music from the Baunti Byuutis dancing group runs through the evening, turning dinner into a performance. A cash bar lets you order drinks, or you can bring your own. If you're short on time or prefer to watch the sunset without staying for the full meal, that's an option too: the sun setting over the water here is one of the standout moments on the island, and people come just for that.

You choose between driving yourself or taking the included bus transfer. Either way, the event needs a minimum number of guests to run. If it has to cancel, you'll get an alternate date or a refund. The site is wheelchair accessible, and service animals are welcome. If you have dietary requirements, let the office know when you book.
