A heritage train ride stops in a quiet country town where you get time to wander.

A three-hour heritage train tour from Gympie travels through the Mary Valley to the small town of Amamoor, with a one-hour journey each way and a break to explore the town on foot. The experience includes a cheese plate and water onboard, plus a two-course meal and drink back at Gympie station. Groups of four or more get a private booth instead of sharing one. A live English-speaking guide accompanies the tour.

The experience

The train leaves Gympie station and rolls through the Mary Valley for an hour, passing farmland and rural landscape while you sit in a VIP booth with a cheese plate and cold water. The pace is slow enough to take in the scenery without rushing through it. When you reach Amamoor, you step off to explore the town on your own terms: browse the general store, grab a coffee at the cafe, or simply walk around and soak in the quiet of the place. There's no set itinerary for this part. You choose how to spend the time.

After Amamoor, you reboard for the return journey back through the Mary Valley to Gympie station. Once you arrive, a two-course meal and a drink of your choice wait for you, completing the three-hour outing. If your group has four or more people, you'll have the booth to yourselves rather than sharing with other travelers. Alcoholic beverages are available to order onboard if you want them.

What’s included

  • Cheese platter and bottle of water onboard.
  • two-course meal and beverage of choice at Gympie station on return.
