The experience

The truck leaves the car park off Beacon Road and climbs into the dunes immediately. You spend 45 minutes in an air-conditioned 4WD (the only vehicle operator running these slopes) with a guide who points out the views and stops where the light and the angle make sense for photos. The dunes themselves are the whole point: white sand, no vegetation, nothing between you and the scale of the place.

Sandboarding happens on the way down. You get a board, climb a slope, and ride it back to the truck. The guide shows you how. The dunes do the rest. It is not a lesson or a timed run. You go when you are ready, and the truck waits. Some people ride once, some ride multiple times during the 45 minutes. The adrenaline part is real.
