The experience

The tour runs 150 minutes and travels in an open-air vintage tram. The vehicle itself is part of the experience, built to give the feel of old-time transport through the Goldfields. You start with a bird's-eye view of Australia's largest open-cut gold mine from the Superpit lookout, then move through the heritage streets of Hannan and Burt, where your guide unpacks the stories behind the buildings and the people who built them during the 1893 Goldrush.

One stop takes you to a local woodturner's workshop to meet one of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's true characters and learn about his sustainable approach to the craft and the importance of the Great Western Woodlands. At the Boulder Town Hall, you'll see one of the world's last remaining Goetcher theatre curtains: a rare survivor from the town's performing-arts heyday. The final stop is 'The Vault' at the Museum of the Goldfields, where you see Australia's most valuable gold nugget on a guided experience inside the museum itself.
