You step into the lift at ground level in Surfers Paradise and rise through the Q1 building — Australia's tallest residential tower — until the doors open onto the SkyPoint observation deck. The view hits you all at once: the coastline stretches north and south, the city sprawls inland, and the hinterland sits green and distant on the horizon. It's 360 degrees of Gold Coast, and you're standing in the only beachside observation deck in the country at 230 metres up. The air feels different up here. Clearer.

Most people spend an hour moving around the deck, stopping at different angles to take in the coastline, the beaches below, the way the city grid runs back from the shore. On a clear day you can see all the way to the hinterland. There's no rush — you come and go as you please once you're in. If you want to sit down, SkyPoint's Bar + Bistro operates all day from breakfast through dinner, so you can order a coffee or a meal and stay awhile with the view. Families with young kids, older visitors, groups — they all move through at their own pace. The deck is wheelchair accessible, and prams work fine too.

The ticket gets you in whenever you want during operating hours. Most days that's from morning through late afternoon, though hours shift seasonally and there are a few closure dates to check — the venue closes on ANZAC Day and Christmas Day, and occasionally for special events.
