A 2-hour surf lesson at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast with Go Ride a Wave, a school teaching since 1987. You get a soft beginner surfboard, wetsuit or rash shirt, sunscreen and instruction from a fully qualified guide. Lessons run daily at 10am and 2pm; meet at the van beside Kurrawa Surf Saving Club, where showers and toilets are nearby to rinse off after. The school can arrange photos of you standing up if you want proof of the moment.

The Experience

Two hours is enough time to move from the sand to the water and actually ride a wave. Go Ride a Wave keeps groups small and focused on the fundamentals—how to paddle, how to pop up, how to stay balanced—so you're not just paddling around. The instruction is live and in English, and the soft beginner board is forgiving when you fall, which you will, and that's the point. A qualified guide walks you through the mechanics on the beach first, then stays in the water with you.

You meet at the van in the car park beside Kurrawa Surf Saving Club. The school provides a long sleeve rash shirt in summer or a wetsuit in winter, sunscreen, and a leg rope so the board doesn't drift away when you wipe out. Showers and toilets are right there afterward, so you can wash off the salt and sand before heading back into your day. If you want photos of yourself actually standing on the board, the guide can arrange that too.

Lessons run every day at 10am and 2pm, so you can fit this around the rest of your Gold Coast plans. Children are welcome from age 8. The whole thing—meeting, instruction, time in the water, cleanup—stays inside the two-hour window.
