The Experience

You climb into a decommissioned Pilatus PC-12 that spent years flying doctors and nurses across Australia's most remote stretches, and suddenly the scale of what the Royal Flying Doctor Service does hits you. The museum splits into two stories, both rooted in the Northern Territory's history. The first is the RFDS itself, founded by Reverend John Flynn in 1939 — a vision that turned a plane into a lifeline for people living hours from any hospital. The second is the bombing of Darwin on 19 February 1942, the day Japanese aircraft attacked the harbour and changed the city forever. Both narratives run through the same building, and the museum uses hologram cinema to bring them to life.
