The experience
The tour runs eight to nine hours and moves through Darwin's mix of nature, history and local culture on your schedule. You start at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens (42 hectares of tropical plants, orchids, palms and a mangrove boardwalk), then head to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory to see the preserved saltwater crocodile Sweetheart and exhibits on Cyclone Tracy and Indigenous art. The guide handles the route and timing. You decide whether to spend an extra half-hour in the gardens or move on to the next stop.
The itinerary also takes in Charles Darwin National Park, where World War II bunkers sit among walking trails with views over the harbor, plus three coastal stops (Nightcliff, Casuarina and Lee Point) each with a different character. Nightcliff has the jetty and cafes; Casuarina stretches longer and quieter; Lee Point feels remote and secluded. The day ends at the Darwin Sailing Club with a cold drink and the sunset over the water. An air-conditioned vehicle and private guide are included throughout. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French depending on your booking.
